Landslide damages dozen houses, cowsheds at Rezan, Ganderbal

Ganderbal, Feb 20:  Dozens of residential houses, shops ,  cowsheds were  damaged due to landslides that struck the Rezan area of Gund in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district late Sunday night. 
 
An official said that on Sunday evening  panic gripped  the Rezan area when a huge landslide from nearby upper reaches, where the road for APCO tunnel is under-construction,  struck the residential areas  damaging  more than a dozen residential houses , shops and  cowsheds. 
There has also been a loss to livestock  in the incident.
Speaking to the Media, District Development Commissioner GanderbalShyambir said that immediate relief will be provided by the district administration to the affected families.
He said that the affected families have been moved to Safer places.
 “Several residential houses and shops were damaged by a landslide, in addition to which cattle  in some cowsheds have also been killed,” he said.
” The removal of the debris of landslides from the highway has been started, The matter will be thoroughly investigated.” DDC said.
DDC confirmed that the residential houses belonging to Mohd Yousuf Raina, Mohd Jamal Raina, Mohd Iqbal Raina, Zahoor Ahmad Raina, Mohd Aslam Barwal, Abdul Salam were completely damaged. Adding that damaged Shops belonged to Mohd Kamal Raina two Shops, Abdul Salam, Mohd Yousuf Raina.
Meanwhile, police CRPF 118 battalion 34 Assam rifles Gund Company, Revenue department and other officers have reached  at the spot to take stock of the situation.The  rescue operation is still underway , the officials said.
On Monday District Development Commissioner Ganderbal visited the Rezan area along with SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar and other officers and reviewed the situation. He instructed the officers to submit the report as soon as possible so that the affected families are compensated as soon as possible.
Meanwhile,  the officials revealed that hundreds of kanals of agricultural land has also been damaged due to the landslide.
