Jammu, Apr 03: J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (JKSPYM) State Level Coordinating Agency (SLCA) organized a one-day training program on “Drug Abuse, Prevention and Treatment” for parents and teachers at Govt Middle School, Bhalwal in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MOSJE), Govt of India.
Around 28 participants, including parents and teachers, participated in the training program. Principal, Govt Middle School Joginder Shastri presented the welcome speech and thanked the SLCA team for conducting this training program in Govt Middle School.
The Resource persons were from the JKSPYM organization. As per the National Action Plan on Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MOSJE), Government of India (GOI) training programs, awareness programs, workshops, capacity building programs need to be conducted all over the States/UTs covering all the strata of society so that every individual of the society can play their role in drug abuse prevention.
Resource persons generated awareness regarding drugs and the process of drug addiction, principles of drug addiction. Further, the facilitator discussed types of drugs, legal and illegal drugs followed by preventive measures and the treatment process. They also generated awareness about the various services provided by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment for Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment i.e. Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), Outreach and Drop-in Centre (ODIC) and Community Peer-Led Intervention (CPLI). One-day Training Program was divided into 4 sessions and the last session was “Role of Parents and Teachers” in Drug Abuse Prevention. The training concluded with discussions and a question-answer session.
Kimi Padhiar, SLCA Official ended the program with a vote of thanks to the principal, resource persons, staff and all the people who were present on the occasion. Refreshments and pamphlets were also distributed among the participants at the end of the program.
