Baramulla, Aug 13: One person died while four others were injured when a speeding vehicle and a bus collided in Poshwan Colony in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A police official said that the incident occurred when a Scorpio vehicle bearing registration number JK05D/5842, driven by Mehraj ud Din Ahanger, was traveling from Boniyar towards Baramulla.
“The Scorpio collided with a JKSRTC bus, registered as JK01Y/1004 and driven by Gulzar Ahmad, which was heading from Baramulla to Boniyar,” he said.
Police said that both drivers suffered injuries in the collision, along with passengers from both vehicles.
“The injured individuals were promptly rescued and transported to GMC Baramulla for immediate medical treatment,” the official added.
A health care official said that a total of four patients were admitted to GMC Baramulla following the accident.
Health care officials confirmed that one of the patients namely Mehraj ud Din Ahanger was shifted to SKIMS Soura in a critical condition, while the remaining individuals have sustained non-fatal injuries, including fractures and dislocations.
“Immediate medical attention was dispatched to the scene, and medical staff at GMC Baramulla are currently providing essential treatment to the injured parties,” he added.
Meanwhile Medical Superintendent AH GMC Baramulla Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi said that Mehraj ud Din Ahanger, a 50-year-old resident of the old town of Baramulla, succumbed to his injuries while en route to SKIMS. Mehraj was driving the Scorpio vehicle.
The injured individuals were identified as Syed Zulfiqar, 35, a resident of Danisyed Uri; Nazar Mohd Khan, 62, a resident of Dachi Uri; Asrar Hussain Shah, 21, from Uri; Nazir Ahmad, 30, a resident of Boniyar; Mohd Asif, 35, a resident of Kanchan Noorkhah; and Skaeena Begum, 76, a resident of Kanchan Noorkhah.
The police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
