Bandipora , April 04: At least 53 vehicles were rescued after a snow storm hit Razdan Top on Bandipora-Gurez road in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, officials said on Tuesday.
They said that at 1600 hrs on Monday, fifty three vehicles departed for Bandipora from Gurez and were subsequently trapped in a snow storm, and were rendered helpless without any supplies.
Subsequently, a team of police and district administration personnel, equipped with the necessary resources, hastened to the scene in order to carry out a rescue operation, he said
The team first ensured the safety of the passengers and drivers before taking out their vehicles stuck in the snow, safely and without any damage, they added.
Meanwhile the Gurez-Bandipora road had been closed as a precautionary measure.
The officials said that Dawar in Gurez had received around two inches of snow and the Tulail area in the region had received three inches.
Bandipora-Gurez road usually remains closed during winter months due to heavy snowfall in the area.
