Srinagar, Aug 14: The Directorate of School Education J&K’s Samagra Shiksha department is going to complete 374 astrophysics laboratories within two months in 188 educational zones to provide space-related knowledge to students in government schools in the union territory. Among these, two astrophysics laboratories in Jammu and Srinagar have already been completed by the department.
Deep Raj, Project Director from the Samgra Shikha J&K told Rising Kashmir that to provide space-related knowledge to students, the department has signed an MOU with IIT Kanpur for the establishment of 376 labs in the 188 educational zones of Jammu and Kashmir.
The project director said that two astronomy labs at Government Higher Secondary School Barzulla Srinagar and Girls High School Gandhinagar Jammu have already been established and completed by the department.
The Astrophysics lab will not only provide space knowledge to the students, it will also help the students to build their interest in astronomy-related activities at the school level, through which the students can shine their career in the subject as well, he said.
Deep Raj said that from the 5th to 12th standard, the students in government schools can visit these labs. After getting fully completed in Jammu and Kashmir, these labs will be equipped with high-cost telescopes through which the students can see the beauty of the planets, stars, moon, sky, and other astronomical bodies, he said.
“We are also going to conduct astronomy-related competitions in the government schools in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The students who will get a top 100 position will be sent to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the exposure tour,” the project director added.
