Jammu, May 28: Under Natrang’s weekly theatre series ‘Sunday Theatre,’ Balwant Thakur’s thought-provoking Hindi play, ‘AAG,’ took center stage today at Nagrota Park. Directed by Neeraj Kant, the play shed light on the alarming drug epidemic, highlighting its destructive consequences on generations and the overall development of nations.
Unlike conventional plays, ‘AAG’ experimented with multiple storylines, effectively portraying the rapid spread of the drug menace, likening it to an uncontrolled fire that ravages the nation’s workforce. One segment of the play depicted a young boy’s struggles to find acceptance among his peers after entering college. Isolated for abstaining from intoxicants, he succumbs to peer pressure and indulges in various substances to prove his maturity. Another segment highlighted the plight of a rural community plagued by alcoholism, attributing poverty, domestic violence, and health issues to the excessive consumption of alcohol. The play further explored the repercussions of addiction, showcasing how individuals under the influence cause havoc in their own lives and that of others.
Balwant Thakur’s poignant play aimed to raise awareness and inspire collective action against the drug menace. Through compelling narratives and engaging performances, the production appealed to save humanity from the clutches of this dangerous dragon.
The play’s stellar cast captivated the audience with their exceptional performances, leaving a lasting impact. Actors who stood out included Neeraj Kant, Brijesh Avtar Sharma, Mihir Gujral, Sumit Bandaral, Kananpreet Kaur, Abhimanyu Choudhary, Aadesh Dhar, and Sheryaar Salaria. The coordination of the show was skillfully handled by Mohd. Yaseen, adding to its seamless execution.
‘AAG’ serves as a wake-up call, urging society to unite in the fight against drug addiction and its detrimental effects. It underscores the need to protect future generations and work towards building a healthier, drug-free society.
