Eradicating terrorism key to J&K’s development: LG Sinha

Srinagar, Aug15: In his address during the 77th Independence Day celebration at Bakshi Stadium, Srinagar, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reiterated that terrorism remains a grave threat to peace and progress, stressing the need to eliminate its various forms. He referred to terrorism and separatism as a societal cancer that must be completely eradicated.
Highlighting the impact of neighbouring-country-exported terrorism on the region’s tranquility and cultural richness, Sinha called for the identification and isolation of remaining extremist elements. He advocated for a unified stance against terrorism, urging unequivocal identification of terrorists as such.
Sinha expressed the administration’s determination to take resolute action against terrorism and dismantle the secessionist ecosystem. He underscored the role of Jammu and Kashmir’s timeless wisdom, unity, and harmony in building a prosperous future.
The Lieutenant Governor praised recent milestones, including the successful G20 Summit and the revival of the ShriAmarnathJiYatra, signifying the dawn of a peaceful era in the Union territory. Sinha highlighted the surge in tourist arrivals, with foreign visits rising by 350% compared to the previous year. The tourism sector, now granted industry status, has been boosted by new policies and initiatives such as home-stays and film promotion.
International participation in the G20 Summit, despite neighboring countries’ attempts to disrupt it, showcased the global acknowledgment of the region’s stability and progress. Sinha revealed that foreign tourist arrivals in the Kashmir Valley saw a 59% increase since the summit, with a record 1.27 crore tourists visiting the Union Territory by July.
The Lieutenant Governor celebrated the ongoingShriAmarnathJiYatra – 2023, which saw the longest pilgrimage in history, attracting devotees from around the world. He also highlighted the Muharram procession, held after 34 years, and commended the region’s fast-paced economic development and societal transformation.
Sinha reported significant revenue growth in various sectors, including GST, stamp duty, and excise collections. He emphasized the completion of stalled projects and the ongoing execution of infrastructure initiatives worth Rs. 1.5 lakh crores. The Lieutenant Governor also mentioned progress in Panchayati Raj, smart city initiatives, industrial investments, and welfare measures for the Kashmiri Pandit community.
Sinha, further, emphasized creating opportunities for youth and empowering women, shaping a brighter future for Jammu and Kashmir. He called for collective efforts to guarantee social rights and safety for women while ensuring their economic independence.
 
 
LG hosts ‘At Home’ 
Srinagar, August 15: The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, hosted an ‘At Home’ reception on the 77th Independence Day today.
On the occasion, the Lt Governor interacted with the family members of martyrs, freedom fighters and citizens of the Union Territory and exchanged Independence Day greetings.
