Srinagar, Sep 09: Prominent politician Zaffer Mir (Lasjan) on Saturday expressed serious concern over “mischievous rumour mongers who have created panic in the Gratabal-Chadoora area by spreading false information about an upcoming demolition drive”.
Mir in a statement issued here said, “These rumours may be part of a larger political conspiracy ahead of the impending municipal and ULB elections. Some vested and malicious political groups are trying to create unnecessary panic among the people of Gratbal-Chadoora, intimidating them with the threat of a fake demolition drive if they do not support their candidates in the elections. This is a reprehensible tactic that preys on the fears of the people widely used by ruling political fronts in the valley.”
Zaffer said he took the initiative to personally verify the situation with district administration. “Both officials denied the existence of any such demolition order, confirming that these rumours are nothing more than a cheap trick to tarnish the administration’s reputation,” he said.
It is disheartening to see our people are still being exploited on various pretexts as this is a clear example of how fear is being used to manipulate votes from the common masses, he said, adding, “It will be ensured that a formal complaint with the concerned police station to address these mischievous elements will be filed so that Panchayat and Municipal elections are conducted without any favouritism or fear.”
Meanwhile, Zaffer extended condolences to the family of Haji Mohammad Yousuf Baba, father of Maqsood-ul-Zaman (IPS), who recently passed away. He extended his solidarity to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.
