Srinagar, Dec 12: To improve city navigation, Ather Amir Khan, CEO of Smart City Srinagar, announced the near completion of phase one in the installation of directional and warning signages across the city. Taking to the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter), Khan expressed his satisfaction, emphasizing the role of signage in aiding people to traverse the city efficiently.

“Signage helps people navigate the city, find a way! Glad that we have almost completed the phase 1 of installation of signages in the city – Directional and Warning signages,” he tweeted. Khan credited the success of the project to the dedication of his team members, specifically acknowledging the contribution of Yamin ul Zaman and Arif Magray, who diligently worked on the project during night hours, he wrote on his X handle.

The initiative aims to provide aesthetically pleasing signs throughout Srinagar, adhering to the guidelines set by the Indian Road Congress (IRC). A senior official from the Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) highlighted the importance of the project, stating that it will not only save time for road users but also enhance road safety and provide reassurance to visitors about their travel direction.

The SSCL official outlined the various types of road and directional signages commissioned under this project, ranging from shoulder-mounted signboards to advanced direction signboards and retro-reflective types with double-sided gantries.

Underlining the significance of the project, the official explained that the Road and Directional Signages were strategically placed to fulfill road safety and traffic objectives, facilitating an efficient commute for residents and visitors alike. The effort aligns with Smart City initiatives , emphasizing the integration of technology to enhance urban living.

The SSCL had recently completed the restoration and renovation of several heritage and religious sites in the city, emphasizing the commitment to conserving historical landmarks.

Looking ahead, the official hinted at numerous developmental projects in the pipeline, slated for implementation in the forthcoming financial year. With these initiatives, Srinagar continues to evolve as a smart and visitor-friendly city, embracing modern solutions for urban challenges.
