Ganderbal, Dec 12: Department of Teacher Education, School of Education, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Tuesday celebrated Edufest-2023 (festival of learning) at Tulmulla campus here.
The students of the department enthralled the audience by performing traditional Kashmiri and Orrisa songs, and showcased their singing talent in the open mic competition. They also performed a Nukkad Natak on the growing drug abuse across the country and its adverse effects on the youth.
Addressing the gathering, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, hailed the department for organising the fest and said that events like these provide a suitable platform for the students to exhibit their hidden and latent talent. “The students of the university are brimming with talent and have brought laurels by performing at different forums,” Prof. Zargar said. He said the NEP-2020 recognizes the importance of a well-rounded education that goes beyond traditional classroom settings and advocates for the integration of experiential learning, vocational training, and community engagement to provide students with a comprehensive skill set that extends beyond academic knowledge. “In line with these important guidelines, the CUK encourages holding of such festivals,” he further said.
Addressing the gathering Sr Asst Prof. Dr. Mohammad Syed said the department was proud to host Edufest 2023 as a testament to the commitment of fostering a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. “Edufest provides a platform for the exchange of ideas, collaboration, and inspiration, aligning with our mission to prepare students for success in an ever-changing world,” he said. He added that “Education is at the core of societal progress, and Edufest aims to empower educators and students alike to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the ever-evolving educational landscape.”
Addressing the participants, Coordinator Department of IT, Er. Afaq Alam, said, Edufest is an enriching experience for students, educators, and the community at large. He said events like these provide us with an opportunity to indulge in academic and non-academic activities, to bond and break the ice with each other. “NEP 2020 lays emphasis on Multi-Disciplinary Approach, Experiential Learning, Holistic Development,” he added.
The students also showcased their scientific, social science and language models, which were adjudicated by a team.
About the event, Sr Asst Prof and organising secretary, Dr. Saima Bashir, said, the event was planned and managed by the students who deserve lots of appreciation. She said the students mesmerised the participants with their flawless performances.
Students including Ms. Fabiha, Ms. Iqra Syed, Ms. Ulfath and Mr. Risvan conducted the event proceedings and Sr. Asst. Prof. Dr. Firdous Ahmad Sofal proposed the vote of thanks.
Faculty members, research scholars and students of the organising departments and other disciplines were also present on the occasion.
