Pulwama, Jan 09: In a decisive move against illicit drug trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police announced on Tuesday the attachment of properties in Pulwama belonging to two notorious drug peddlers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to a press statement, a double-storied residential house in Karimabad village, valued at approximately Rs. 2,097,291, owned by Fayaz Ahmad Rather, was among the properties seized.
Additionally, two shops with an upper storey used as a residential apartment, worth around Rs. 2,735,186 and owned by Mohammad Maqbool Bhat, were also attached.
Both actions were carried out under sections 8/21-29 of the NDPS Act 1985.The police clarified that these measures were taken after a thorough investigation confirmed the acquisition of these properties through illicit drug trafficking.
The individuals associated with these assets, Fayaz Ahmad Rather and Mohammad d Maqbool Bhat, are presently in legal custody.
Emphasising their commitment to public safety and national security, the police stated, “The attachment was carried out in accordance with the due legal process outlined in FIR No. 301/2023 U/S 8/21-29 NDPS Act of PS Pulwama, underscoring the vigilant stance of Pulwama Police against those involved in the drug trade.
The local community has expressed appreciation for the operation, with one resident stating, “Pulwama Police has attached the properties of two notorious drug peddlers today. All stakeholders of Pulwama appreciated this brilliant move by Pulwama Police. Such proactive measures are seen as crucial to ensuring Pulwama remains a drug-free area.”
