Srinagar, Nov 28: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Tuesday expressed dismay over charging seven university students with a severe Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for allegedly cheering for the winning team during the ICC Cricket World Cup final.
Denouncing the step as too harsh, Imran said, “Slapping UAPA on these students is excessively severe; instead, they could have been suspended by the college administration and subsequently counselled. I hope that the authorities adopt a more lenient approach, especially considering these students are nearing completion of their degrees.”
While asking the authorities to revoke its decision to slap the stringent UAPA on these students, Imran said, “Their academic career will be over as they are on the verge of completing their degrees. All their dreams and of their families will be shattered.”
