Srinagar, Oct 11: In a significant moment of pride and accomplishment, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the 20th convocation at the University of Kashmir on Wednesday. The convocation, presided over by President of India, Droupadi Murmu, celebrated the exceptional achievements of the university’s students.
During his address, LG Sinha expressed his heartfelt joy, noting that over 66% of the students awarded gold medals at the University of Kashmir were daughters of the Union Territory. He emphasised the remarkable self-confidence, courage, and ability of these young women to set new records in education and various other fields.
LG Sinha extended his gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu for her presence at the Convocation Ceremony, recognising the importance of this momentous occasion.
“The accomplishments of our daughters and their determination to excel serve as a source of immense pride for the entire Union Territory,” said LG Sinha. He viewed these results as an encouraging step towards women-led development, highlighting the importance of their self-confidence, bravery, and their capacity to set new records in education and various domains.
He further congratulated the graduating students, encouraging them to seek new opportunities, take on challenges, and contribute to the nation’s progress.
“Convocation is a very important day in the academic calendar and a crucial milestone in a student’s life. It is a stepping stone on the path of progress, both academically and professionally, offering infinite opportunities to contribute to building a strong and ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India),” LG Sinha emphasised.
In his address, LG Sinha stressed the significance of lifelong learning, fostering critical and analytical thinking in professional careers, and contributing to the ongoing social transformation in the nation’s fastest-growing economy. He underlined that knowledge would be the primary driver of economic growth in the coming decades.
LG Sinha called upon higher educational institutions to create a robust ecosystem for advanced research, innovation, and new inventions, while also addressing the needs of society and industries. He emphasised the need to serve local communities and bring about positive change in the lives of the underprivileged.
Commending the University of Kashmir for living up to its motto, “Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya” (From Darkness to Light), the LG Sinha recognised its significant contributions to the nation’s knowledge economy.
The function was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh, Junaid Azim Mattu, Mayor of Srinagar, Aftab Malik, Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC) Srinagar, Vice Chancellors of various universities, heads of educational institutions, senior officers, faculty members, and enthusiastic students who attended the Convocation ceremony.
