Srinagar, Oct 26: In a significant crackdown on cross-border infiltration, security forces carried out a successful operation, gunning down five Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in the Machil Sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir along the Line of Control (LoC).
The successful operation was carried out jointly by Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army and thwarted a major infiltration attempt.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar said that five LeT terrorists were killed in a joint operation in Sardari Nar area along the Line of Control in Machil Sector.
He appreciated the role of Kupwara Police for generating the actionable input & the role of joint forces for swiftly tracking and neutralizing the infiltrating terrorists to defeat the nefarious designs of inimical elements who are hellbent to disrupt peace and harmony in the valley.
ADGP Kumar said this relentless determination and coordination have been pivotal in defeating the nefarious designs of inimical elements who persistently aim to disrupt peace and harmony in the valley.
“The region’s security forces remain resolute in their mission to safeguard the Kashmir Valley from external threats and maintain the prevailing peace and security,” he added.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that based on an intelligence input generated by Kupwara Police, an infiltration bid was successfully foiled in a joint operation launched by Police and Army along the LoC in Machil Sector of Kupwara district. In this swift and coordinated operation, five (05) terrorists were neutralized, he said.
“After receiving the intelligence input, the joint party of Kupwara Police & Army (56RR) swiftly launched an anti-terrorist operation during the intervening night of 25-26th October at Sardari Nar area along the Line of Control in Machil Sector,” the spokesman said.
He said besides, multiple ambushes were laid by the joint teams along the LoC. Today, the joint team observed movement of terrorists in the thick dense forests of the area who were taking advantage of difficult terrain to our side.
“Employing meticulous tactics, the terrorists were intercepted who fired indiscriminately upon the joint team. The fire was retaliated, leading to the elimination of five (05) unidentified terrorists linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT,” he said.
The police spokesman said that identification of the killed terrorists is being ascertained.
Meanwhile police recovered a huge cache of arms & ammunition including five (05) AK rifles & other incriminating materials from the site of encounter.
“All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation. In this regard, Police have registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated,” he said.
The police spokesman said extensive search of the area is being carried out and further details if any will be shared accordingly.
On October 23, infiltration was foiled along  LoC in the Uri sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and two terrorists were killed in the operation.
Over the past five months, security forces have successfully thwarted seven infiltration attempts made by foreign terrorists along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir.
These operations have led to the elimination of 19 foreign terrorists, including two on October 23, who were intercepted while attempting to cross into Indian territory.
