Srinagar, Aug 14: National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah and Apni Party chief Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari have extended heartfelt greetings to the people on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day.In a statement issued here, Dr Farooq expressed hope that the nation continues to uphold the founding ideals of secularism, inclusivity, and unity in diversity, which have guided its democratic journey over the decades.He emphasised the importance of collective progress, expressing his optimism that India will continue to make meaningful strides in every sphere of development, for the betterment and prosperity of its 1.50 billion citizens.The former Chief Minister called upon all citizens to renew their commitment to the values that inspired the freedom movement and to work together in building a just, peaceful, and progressive India.Altaf Bukhari, in a statement, said, “As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day tomorrow, August 15, I extend my warmest greetings to the citizens of the country, especially the people of Jammu and Kashmir. On this day in 1947, India achieved freedom after a prolonged struggle and tremendous sacrifices against British colonial rule. Being a citizen of a free nation is indeed a profound privilege.”He added, “May this significant day usher in greater prosperity and well-being for all and promote unity and harmony among people of diverse religious faiths and different regions of the country.”Bukhari went on to say, “On this special occasion, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment that the Apni Party is dedicated to ensuring that the people of J&K receive all the rights they are entitled to under the constitution—rights that are enjoyed by citizens across the country.”
