Jammu, July 25: With a sharp focus on the forthcoming 69th National School Games (NSG), the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) Friday commenced a 14-day Refresher and Orientation Course for officials in the disciplines of Table Tennis and Wushu. The training is being held at the Sports Training Centre/Base Camp, Nagrota, with the aim of enhancing preparedness and ensuring professional execution of the national event.A statement issued here said that the DYSS is set to host the 69th NSG in four disciplines this season—Football, Table Tennis, Wushu, and Taekwondo—with Football and Wushu events to be held in Srinagar, and Table Tennis and Taekwondo competitions scheduled for Jammu. To ensure top-tier coordination and officiating, the department has planned four back-to-back refresher courses, equipping officials with updated knowledge and technical proficiency. The current course, involving 103 officials, including PETs, PEMs, PELs, and Resource Persons from across Jammu and Kashmir, was formally inaugurated by Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Jammu, Vinakshi Koul, accompanied by Deputy Director YSS (Central), Jitender Mishra, and DYSSO Jammu, Sukhdev Raj Sharma. Six expert officials have been appointed as Resource Persons, with Ram Murti Sharma, Zonal Physical Education Officer, serving as Camp In-charge. Speaking at the inaugural session, Vinakshi Koul highlighted the department’s commitment to capacity building and professional development. “The department has engaged reputed resource persons to train our officials, which will certainly yield improved results. Refresher training not only enhances skills but also boosts morale and reflects our dedication to continuous learning,” she said. She further noted that refresher courses in Taekwondo had already been conducted and the department was now focusing on Table Tennis and Wushu, while Football had a strong base of experienced professionals. Jitender Mishra, Deputy Director YSS (Central), emphasised the value of such initiatives– “Refresher training reinforces existing knowledge, prevents skill decay, and ensures officials stay updated with the latest developments. It is crucial for delivering high-quality events at the national level,” he said.
