Srinagar, Jul 10: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday accused the National Conference (NC) of what she termed as double speak on Kashmir’s history. In a statement issued here, Mufti said the J&K Assembly Speaker’s decision to drop PDP’s resolution seeking official recognition of July 13 as “Martyrs’ Day”, moved by MLA, to commemorate the sacrifices of 22 protestors martyred in 1931 “exposes their silence proves complicity, not commitment”.”By dropping PDP’s July 13 Martyrs’ Day resolution, the J&K Assembly has exposed NC’s double-speak on Kashmir’s history. Their silence proves complicity, not commitment,” she said.Mehbooba accused the NC, once vocal about preserving Kashmir’s historical legacy, of conveniently retreating when it mattered most. “When the moment came to defend a shared legacy, they chose silence,” she said. The PDP maintains that July 13, 1931, marks the dawn of political consciousness in Jammu and Kashmir and must be acknowledged officially, the statement said, adding that the party views the silence of NC and the rejection of the resolution as part of a broader attempt to dilute the region’s history and democratic foundations.Mufti reaffirmed PDP’s resolve to resist any such efforts and to uphold the legacy of those who laid down their lives for the rights and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
