Achabal Clinches U-17 Handball, Srigufwara Wins U-14 Baseball in YSS Anantnag Sports Fest

Anantnag, June 11: The Department of Youth Services and Sports Anantnag Wednesday concluded two major district-level sports events today, bringing together hundreds of enthusiastic student-athletes from various zones of the district.
In which at HSS Wanpoh, the U/17 Boys Inter-Zonal Handball Tournament culminated with Zone Achabal clinching the championship title after a thrilling series of matches. While as at HSS Dailgam, the District-Level Inter-Zonal Baseball Tournament for U/14 Boys was held with much enthusiasm and discipline. In this keenly contested baseball tournament Zone Ashmuqam emerged as the winner and Zone Achabal finished as the runners-up. The event saw the participation of around 80 student players from multiple zones, who exhibited sportsmanship, energy, and commitment to fair play. The tournament was aimed at promoting grassroots-level talent and encouraging students to embrace physical activity and a healthy lifestyle. In both District Level events, the underlying message was loud and clear: ‘Say No to Drugs, Yes to Sports’. The students and officials took a pledge to remain drug-free and to promote a culture of fitness, teamwork, and positive living.
These district-level competitions reflect the continuous efforts of DYSSO Anantnag to promote physical education, nurture young sporting talent, and build a stronger sporting ecosystem in the region. In the Zonal level events, a cricket tournament featuring 34 teams and 544 student players from government and private schools of ‘Zone Anantna’ was organized to promote grassroots cricket. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and sent a powerful message as all officials and players took a collective anti-drug pledge, encouraging a healthy, positive future for the youth.
‘Zone Achabal’ successfully conducted Inter-School Competitions in Volleyball, Kabaddi, and Kho-Kho for U/14 Girls at Government High School Dialgam. A total of 484 girls participated in which the Winners in All Events was recorded as GMS Tailwani and Runners-up were MS Sahibabad & Hanfia Dialgam.
‘Zone Shangus’ also witnessed its U/14 Girls Inter-School Sports Meet at HSS Uttersoo with an Anti-Drug Pledge ceremony. Over 285 students from different schools participated in Volleyball, Kabaddi, and Kho Kho competitions. In Volleyball the Winner was MS Gosswaniwooder and Runner-up BHS Nowgam, In Kabaddi the Winners cap was clinched by MS Paison & Runner-up MS Sheikhpora and in Kho Kho the Winner were MS Paison and Runner-up HS Shergund.
