Srinagar/Jammu, May 20: The Indian Army on Tuesday said that Operation Sindoor is not over but temporarily suspended, and affirmed that the forces remain fully alert and prepared to respond with decisive force if provoked again.
Briefing the media in Poonch, Brigadier Mudit Mahajan, Commander of the Poonch Brigade, highlighted the Indian Army’s proactive role in the operation and detailed the precision strikes carried out against Pakistan-backed terrorinfrastructure along the Line of Control.
“Our brigade was not just a part but the heart of Operation Sindoor,” Brig Mahajan said, emphasising the Poonch Brigade’s central role in launching calibrated responses to Pakistani aggression.
The Brigadier stated that the operation was initiated in response to a Pakistan-sponsored terror strike in Pahalgam, with Indian forces initially targeting terrorist infrastructure. “The Army struck with unmatched precision and purpose. Six of the nine critical terrorist targets neutralized were located opposite Poonch, Rajouri, and Akhnoor, and they were effectively taken out that same night,” he said.
The situation escalated when the Pakistan Army began indiscriminately targeting civilian areas, prompting the Indian Army to shift focus and begin striking Pakistani military assets.
Brig Mahajan also addressed the emerging drone threat, noting the exceptional performance of the Army Air Defence in intercepting hostile drone swarms. “As the enemy unleashed this new threat, it was our air defence that stood as the shining shield. The troops displayed exceptional skill, coordination, and resilience, ensuring the safety of both personnel and territory.”
He said the impact on the Pakistani side was not limited to physical damage but extended to morale and strategic posture.
“Today, they have lost their credibility before their own nation. We have credible inputs of heavy fatal and non-fatal casualties inflicted upon the enemy. These figures continue to rise as our intelligence agencies work to verify and corroborate incoming data,” Brigadier Mahajan added. He reiterated that Operation Sindoor has not concluded.
“It only remains suspended for the time being. The Indian Army is alert, prepared, and should we be challenged again, we will respond — not with words, but with fire and resolve,” he asserted.
