Jammu, May 19: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu & Kashmir on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of practising double standards by “insulting” a woman army officer while simultaneously holding Tiranga Rallies in the name of honouring the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces.
In a statement issued here, the party condemned the derogatory remarks made by Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah against Colonel Sofia Qureshi, a decorated woman officer of the Indian Army. “Such disrespectful comments not only insult a brave soldier but also hurt the dignity of women, the honour of the armed forces and the unity of the nation,” it said.
The AAP added, “It is irony and hypocrisy of BJP leaders to organise patriotic events like Tiranga Rallies as tributes to the valour of Indian soldiers in operation Sindoor, while allowing their own ministers to demean military officers. How a person in a position of responsibility could make such immoral and hateful comments, especially during a time when the nation is celebrating the success of a crucial military operation.”
The party further slammed the BJP high command’s silence on the issue. It has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh immediately seek Vijay Shah’s resignation and initiate strict disciplinary action against him.
“The BJP must prove its respect for the armed forces through action, not hollow slogans,” the AAP said, adding that decisive action was necessary to preserve communal harmony, national unity and the dignity of India’s defence personnel.
