Srinagar, May 14: People’s Conference (PC) President and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Handwara, Sajad Gani Lone, along with party’s Senior Vice President and former Cabinet Minister Abdul Gani Vakil, visited the border town of Uri to meet families affected by recent cross-border shelling and rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
During the visit, the leaders interacted with local residents living along the Line of Control (LoC), many of whom have suffered displacement, property damage, and psychological trauma due to the recurrent hostilities.
Expressing serious concern over their plight, Lone and Vakil appealed to the Government of India to take immediate steps for the rehabilitation of affected families and provide them with substantial financial assistance. They said that residents of border areas in Jammu and Kashmir have long been subjected to uncertainty and fear, and it is high time their sacrifices and suffering are acknowledged through meaningful action.
“The border population has shown remarkable resilience despite living under constant threat. The government must ensure their safety, stability, and provide all necessary support to rebuild their lives,” Vakil said.
Lone reiterated the party’s commitment to standing by the people in these distressed areas and raising their concerns on every platform.
