Jammu, May 14: More than 70,000 street lights in Jammu City and its outskirts, were made functional on Wednesday over the directions of security agencies to the concerned authorities.
The decision was taken following the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan and in view of no cross border shelling from across the border in the last two days, officials said.
The street lights had been completely off since May 7 following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
All the 90,000 street lights in Jammu City and its outskirts were turned off through the central control system on 7th of this month since the beginning of Operation Sindoor.
“We were directed by the government to turn off all the street lights across Jammu City and its outskirts,” Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Devansh Yadav informed Rising Kashmir, while adding, “Ater government’s order, around 70,000 street lights have been made fully functional in Jammu and its outskirts.”
In the remaining 20,000 street lights, there are some solar lights and few are manually operated, which will also be made functional in a day or two, the JMC Commissioner said.
The JMC Commissioner said that some street lights in Jammu City, its outskirts and along the bridges are damaged which will also be made functional very soon.
