TANGDHAR (KUPWARA), MAY 13: Continuing his outreach to residents affected by cross-border shelling, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today visited Tangdhar in Kupwara district to assess the ground situation and interact with affected families.
He was accompanied by Advisor to the CM Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Trehgam Mir Saifullah, MLA Sogam Qaiser Jamshed Lone, MLA Karnah Javaid Mirchal, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Ayushi Sudan, Senior Superintendent of Police Ghulam Jeelani Wani, and other senior officials.
During the visit, the Chief Minister toured several villages in the Karnah border sub-division, including Tangdhar, Hajinard, Nachiyan, Shamspora, Baghbela, Batpora, and Tarboni. He reviewed the damage to residential structures and heard grievances from the affected residents.
Expressing solidarity with the victims, he stated:
“The affected families have shown remarkable courage in the face of adversity. Their resilience is inspiring. The government stands shoulder to shoulder with them. Their pain will not go unnoticed, and every possible step will be taken to help them rebuild their lives with dignity and renewed hope.”
He reaffirmed that ensuring the safety, support, and swift rehabilitation of affected families remains the government’s top priority.
The Chief Minister also visited the Sub-District Hospital in Tangdhar to assess the availability and quality of healthcare services in the border area. He inspected key departments including the Outpatient and Inpatient units, Gynaecology, Operation Theatre, Ultrasonography, and X-Ray facilities. Interacting with the Chief Medical Officer, doctors, and hospital staff, he urged them to serve the local population with dedication and compassion.
He also spoke to patients and their attendants to better understand their concerns and satisfaction with the medical services provided.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister emphasized that his visit aimed to personally assess the damage caused by shelling. He reiterated the government’s commitment to provide adequate relief and rehabilitation support to the victims.
While inspecting community bunkers in Tangdhar, he acknowledged their importance during periods of heightened tension.
“These structures are a lifeline during times of escalation. We will ensure the construction of additional bunkers to safeguard our people living in vulnerable areas,” he said.
He added that the construction of individual bunkers would be pursued with the Union Government to further enhance the safety of border residents.
During his visit, the Chief Minister also reviewed the Hydel Power Project at Gundi Shart, which has been impacted by recent hostilities. He assured that the project would be completed within the stipulated timeline.
