Srinagar, May 10: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) welcomed the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, viewing it as a pivotal step towards restoring peace and stability in the region.
This development, KCCI said, brings significant relief to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir, who have endured the hardships of recent hostilities, including loss of lives, damage to property, and widespread fear.
“As a longstanding advocate for peace and economic development, KCCI believes that the cessation of hostilities offers an opportunity to rebuild lives, communities, and trust. The Chamber commends the leadership on both sides for their commitment to dialogue and de-escalation, and acknowledges the efforts of international mediators who facilitated this agreement,” reads the statement.
KCCI expressed sympathies with the families of those who lost their lives during the recent escalation, including the family of Raj Kumar Thapa, the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) of Rajouri, whose service and dedication will be remembered with profound respect and admiration.
“We urge the government to announce ex-gratia payments for the next of kin of all deceased, and to provide immediate relief to those injured.”
Furthermore, KCCI called upon the Government of India and the administration of Jammu and Kashmir to conduct a swift and comprehensive assessment of the losses suffered due to the recent tensions. “It is imperative that adequate compensation is provided to those who have lost property, and that rehabilitation measures are undertaken for displaced families.”
Beyond the human toll, KCCI said the violence has led to substantial damage to private and public property, livestock, horticulture, and other livelihood sources—especially in vulnerable border belts. KCCI strongly demands that the government immediately initiate a comprehensive assessment of all such losses to ensure that adequate compensation and rehabilitation reach the affected families without delay.
The Chamber emphasised the importance of restoring normalcy in the affected areas, ensuring the safety and well-being of residents, and facilitating the resumption of economic activities.
