Srinagar, May 08: The Department of Computer Applications of Government Degree College Ganderbal Thursday organised “Loopify,” a coding competition that brought together aspiring programmers and tech enthusiasts from across the department of computer applications.
Held in the BCA lab, the event aimed to foster logical reasoning, programming proficiency, and a collaborative spirit among students. The programme began with a warm welcome address by Prof. Qurat-ul-Ain, Head of the Department of Computer Applications. While welcoming the participants and guest, Prof Qurat said: “This is the first-ever tech tussle of its kind in any degree college of the valley in recent past, and we’re thrilled to provide a platform for our students to showcase their skills. In today’s fast-paced technological landscape, events like “Loopify” play a crucial role in honing our students’ coding skills, encouraging innovation, and fostering a sense of healthy competition. By participating in such events, our students can gauge their abilities, learn from their peers, and develop a problem-solving mindset that’s essential for success in the tech industry.”
Prof. Qurat further said: “I extend a warm welcome to all participants and our esteemed guest, Farah, a software engineer at a leading MNC, who has graciously agreed to judge our contestants today. Her industry expertise will undoubtedly provide valuable insights to our students.” Prof. Mujeeb Kawoosa, in his address, praised the Department of Computer Applications for their efforts in organizing the event. He said, “I commend Prof. Qurat and her team for taking the initiative to host this coding competition. Such events not only showcase the talent of our students but also provide a platform for them to learn and grow. I’m confident that this event will inspire our students to pursue excellence in the field of computer applications.” The competition was officially thrown open by a ribbon-cutting ceremony performed by Prof. Mujeeb, marking the beginning of the exciting coding challenges ahead. In the first-round participants were tasked with locating and correcting bugs in a provided codebase within a time limit of one hour. The round tested participants’ attention to detail and debugging skills. Farah evaluated the submissions and Prof. Qurat announced the results. In the second-round participants have to develop algorithmic solutions and create web-based applications, demonstrating their ability to analyse real-world problems and implement effective technical solutions. After an intense showdown of creativity and coding expertise, Marib Fayaz from 4thsemester claimed first place. Burhan from 6th semester claimed 2nd place and third places were claimed by Mehraan and Suhaib from 2ndsemester (followed closely), each earning accolades for their excellent performance. Farah, the judge, commented, “It was an arduous task to adjudge the participants, as almost all of them showcased exceptional coding skills and a deep understanding of the problems. I’m impressed by the talent and dedication of these students, and I have no doubt that they will excel in their future endeavours.” Winners received certificates, trophies and special prizes as a token of appreciation from Principal of the college Prof Fouzia Fatima.
