Pulwama, May 03: On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, the Journalist Guild of Pulwama paid heartfelt tributes to the victims of the recent terrorist attack at Baisaran valley of Pahalgam on April 22, 2025.

Participants at the event observed a two-minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives.

Speakers strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist attack on tourists and described it as a heinous act against humanity.

Ghulam Hassan Talib, a retired administrative officer and noted scholar, described the attack as “barbaric and inhuman,” stating that it had deeply shaken the conscience of Kashmiri society.

Talib emphasized the essential role of a free press in a vibrant democracy. “With the widespread use of mobile phones, anyone can claim to be a journalist, making it more difficult to distinguish facts from fake news,” he added, urging professional journalists to uphold the core values and ethics of journalism.

Talib further emphasized the importance of responsible reporting, particularly on sensitive issues.

Senior journalists including Shakeel Azad, Editor-in-Chief of Shaherbeen Times, Mehraj ud Din, Editor-in-Chief of Nida-e-Kashmir, and Daily Zamindar, Shabnam Fayaz, Correspondent 4TV and Fayaz Ahmad Wani, Vice President Traders Federation Pulwama and Kamran Khursheed Chairman Health and Development Society Pulwama stressed the importance of focusing on stories that create a positive impact on society.

The Journalist Guild of Pulwama concluded the event by calling upon its members to strictly follow the latest guidelines issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
