Srinagar, Apr 30: Dryland Agriculture Research Station (DARS), SKUAST-Kashmir conducted a mega awareness-cum-Seed Distribution programme at Anderwan, Achabal of District Anantnag in
coordination with the Department of Agriculture. The programme was sponsored by Indian Institute of Millet Research (IIMR), Hyderabad under TSP of AICRP on Millets.
The programme started with a welcome address by Dr. Fayaz Ahmed Bahar, Professor Agronomy and Incharge AICRP-Millets and presented a detailed overview of the event. Dr Bahar advised farmers to use millets as functional food; keeping in view changing food habits of society and drastic change in climatic scenario. An exhaustive and informative lecture was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Mohd Ashraf Bhat, Associate Director Research, DARS, Rangreth and the tribal farmers expressed an overwhelming response and happiness for conducting this type of programme. He also spoke in length about the various programmes and schemes like HADP being undertaken by the university and various development Departments focused on upliftment of socio-economic concerns of the tribal farming community.
Around one hundred farmers were benefited under the programme and farm implements alongwith millet seed was distributed among the beneficiaries free of cost.
