Jammu, Mar 25: Stressing the need to unite generations in preserving, protecting, and promoting cultural heritage and sharing the ancient wisdom of civilisation, the Lieutenant Governor said “it is imperative that we explore various ways to raise awareness about our heritage and its significance in today’s society.”
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today attended the ‘J&K Cultural Festival’ organised by the Kailakh Jyotish & Vedic Sansthan Trust at Baba Jitto Auditorium, SKUAST Jammu. The event was also graced by Acharya Mahamandleshwar Swami Kailashanand Giri Ji Maharaj.
In his address, the Lieutenant Governor commended the efforts of Shri Kailakh Jyotish and Vedic Sansthan and all those associated with the Trust for their role in promoting and preserving the cultural values and linguistic heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
He emphasised that it is essential for organisations and individuals to come forward and take proactive steps in preserving and disseminating India’s timeless wisdom and value systems, which will contribute to fostering a more harmonious and enlightened society.
“Our ancient civilisation has profoundly influenced humanity through its rich contributions in the fields of culture, intellectual development, science, and spirituality, shaping the idea of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ — the world is one family,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
The Lieutenant Governor also called on the youth, religious organizations, and members of civil society to prioritise the preservation of Natural Heritage, Cultural Heritage, and Living Heritage. He suggested adopting a multidisciplinary approach to safeguard cultural practices, folk arts, traditional crafts, and ancient knowledge systems while also focusing on sustainable development.
He highlighted the indispensable role of scientists, artists, and spiritual leaders in realizing the vision of a Viksit Bharat (Developed India). “Concerted efforts involving all stakeholders are vital for the preservation and promotion of our heritage,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor further encouraged every section of society, especially the younger generation, to become brand ambassadors of sustainable living and raise awareness about our collective responsibility towards Mother Earth.
The event also saw the felicitation of prominent personalities from various fields. A documentary film was showcased, and a book titled ‘Abhinandan Granth’, edited by Mahant Rohit Shastri and based on the life of the Lieutenant Governor, was released.
The J&K Cultural Festival aimed at promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage, religious traditions, and social unity. During the event, an exhibition of local handicrafts, traditional cuisines, and folk dances was organised.
An additional exhibition highlighted the strength and technological advancements of the Armed Forces, aiming to inspire youth to join the Army and serve the nation.
The event was attended by a distinguished gathering, including Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu; Shri Sham Lal Sharma, Member of Legislative Assembly; Shri Sanjeev Verma, Commissioner Secretary, Social Welfare; Mahant Rohit Shastri, President of Shri Kailakh Jyotish & Vedic Sansthan Trust; senior officials; religious leaders; and a large number of people from the region.
