Srinagar, Mar 20: Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, on Thursday informed the Assembly that the government is taking steps to modernize the irrigation network in Eidgah constituency.
This statement came in response to a question raised by former Speaker and MLA Mubarak Gul regarding irrigation facilities in the constituency, particularly at Takenwari, Bakshipora, Kreshbal, Goripora, Sangam and Danmar.
Responding to the question, Rana said the government is committed to providing proper irrigation facilities to farmers in the Kashmir valley. “Minor repair, restoration and desilting works are being undertaken to keep all schemes functional during the irrigation season through M&R and Stage grants,” he said.
He added that modernization and improvement of the irrigation canal network, particularly at Takenwari Bakshipora Lift Irrigation Scheme (LIS), have been planned with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) worth Rs. 1.30 crore.
“A DPR worth Rs. 52.81 lakh has also been prepared for Kreshbal LIS, and both schemes will be part of upcoming projects,” he said.
On other areas, Rana said no modernization is required for LIS schemes at Goripora, Sangam, and Danmar.
He said steps are being taken to improve the irrigation network in Eidgah constituency by lining unlined canals to reduce water loss, upgrading lift schemes to enhance output, and introducing automation through the SCADA system for improved water distribution.
Regarding the status of dewatering stations and irrigation canals in Eidgah constituency, Rana clarified that “no such projects are under construction.”
