Jammu, Mar 18: Leaders of the Shiv Sena (UBT) Jammu-Kashmir unit held a strong protest here on Tuesday, demanding the immediate arrest of Bollywood and social media influencer Orhan Avtramani, also known as Orry, and his associates. They alleged that Orry consumed alcohol at a hotel in Katra, the holy town associated with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, where alcohol consumption is strictly prohibited.
Led by state chief Manish Sahni, the protesters carried placards reading, “Arrest Orry who insulted religious faith,” “Implement liquor ban in Jammu,” and “Religious faith of crores of Hindus hurt”.
Sahni, according to a statement issued here, said that Orry, along with eight companions, allegedly drank alcohol in a Katra hotel during their pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, insulting the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus. He reiterated Shiv Sena UBT’s long-standing demand for a complete liquor ban in Jammu and Kashmir, calling the region a sacred land of sages and saints.
“Jammu, known as the city of temples, has been turned into a city of liquor with the opening of multiple liquor shops. The consumption of alcohol in Katra, where Mata Vaishno Devi is worshipped, is an open challenge to Hindu religious sentiments,” he said.
The Shiv Sena leader demanded Orry’s immediate arrest and urged Hindu organisations that protest against historical figures like Aurangzeb to similarly push for strict legal action against those who disrespect religious sites. He called on the Jammu & Kashmir Police to take action without any political pressure.
