Trivandrum, Mar 11: Jammu and Kashmir’s batting mainstay Chitra Singh Jamwal slammed a sparkling unbeaten century but that was enough to power J&K to victory as the team suffered a narrow defeat to Goa in the ongoing Women’s U-23 One Day Trophy at Sports Hub International Stadium Trivandrum
Chasing a good total of 203 runs, J&K scored 198 runs in 50 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process, thus losing the match by a narrow margin of 5 runs. Chitra showed stellar grit and tenacity to notch up unbeaten 101 runs off 112 balls studded with 12 delectable boundaries and one massive six. She was in sublime touch and struck 28 runs in the last 10 balls to complete her superb century. Bawandeep Kaur and skipper Rudrakshi Chib contributed 23 and 22 runs to the total respectively. Ananaya Sharma (16) and Sheena Saraf (10) also contributed to the team’s total.
Usma who earlier scored a magnificent century was the most successful bowler, taking 3 wickets, while Pooja Yadav bagged 2 wickets and Poorva Bhaidkar claimed one. Earlier, put into bat, Goa scored 203 runs in the stipulated 50 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process. Usma slammed a magnificent century, scoring 100 runs off 153 deliveries studded with 14 boundaries. while Metali Ramesh scored 28 runs off 31 balls with 5 fours and Sakshi contributed 11 runs.
Ronaq Jahan, Mariya Noorain and skipper Rudrakshi Chib bagged 2 wickets each for J&K, while Chitra Singh Jamwal, Ananaya Sharma and Tahseena Nisar claimed one wicket each.
