Udhampur, Mar 09: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Udhampur East, Ranbir Singh Pathania on Sunday emphasised the importance of sports and physical fitness in leading a disciplined and healthy life.
“Sports is not just a recreational activity; it is a way of life. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind, and physical fitness should be an inseparable part of our daily routine,” he said while flagging off a grand marathon race from Round Mail to Channi Morh along Dhar Road here.
The event, organised by Yuva Rajput Sabha Udhampur, witnessed enthusiastic participation from youth, local ex-Sarpanches, Panches, dignitaries and a large number of local residents, the MLA’s office said in a statement issued here. Notable attendees included Parshotam Gupta, Krishan Singh, Nityanand Sharma, (Sarpanches) as well as officers from the local police, including the SHO Udhampur and Chowki Officer Roun Domel.
The marathon was organised in line with the Home Minister’s mission to combat drug abuse, fight narco-terrorism, and make society drug-free. Participants ran with the message: “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Life.”
He stressed the need for promoting a “Fit India Movement” and urged people to adopt healthier lifestyles by avoiding excessive consumption of junk food, artificial additives and unhealthy oils and spices. He called upon the youth to channel their energy towards productive activities like sports, adventure, and skill development, rather than falling prey to drug abuse.
In a symbolic gesture of encouragement, the BJP leader himself participated in the marathon, running alongside the youth. His remarkable fitness and active participation won him widespread appreciation and applause from the crowd, inspiring many, the statement said.
Pathania in his address said, “Drug addiction is not just an individual problem; it is a social evil that destroys families and futures. My mission is to make Udhampur a completely drug-free zone. We will intensify awareness campaigns, strengthen law enforcement against drug peddlers, and ensure rehabilitation for those affected. Together, we will defeat this menace. We will make Udhampur a premier sports hub of J&K.”
Soni Rathore, President of Yuva Rajput Sabha, praised Pathania for being a true role model who, despite his busy schedule, actively participates in such initiatives to motivate the youth. “His commitment to fitness and his unwavering dedication to social causes make him an inspiration for all of us. Events like these will be held regularly to ensure that Udhampur remains on the path to becoming a drug-free zone,” Rathore said.
The event concluded with a pledge taken by all participants to stay away from drugs and promote fitness in their communities. MLA Pathania assured that the government will extend full support to similar initiatives that empower youth and build a healthier, stronger Udhampur.
