Jammu, March 06: The Revenue Department has constituted a three-tier committee to oversee the delineation and demarcation of land recorded as Gair Mumkin Khad, Gair Mumkin Dariya and Gair Mumkin Nallah—areas historically classified as non-cultivable due to their association with water bodies.
Responding to a query from BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa in the Assembly on Thursday, the government stated that the authority for delineation has now been delegated to the Deputy Commissioner and Divisional Commissioner levels to ensure swifter case resolution.
The exercise will be carried out by government agencies, including the Survey of India and the National Institute of Hydrology. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, and these institutions is currently under active consideration.
“Once finalised, the delineation process will be completed within a stipulated timeframe, followed by the correction of revenue records. Subsequently, the applicable rules will be enforced to facilitate the appropriate use of such land under existing norms,” the government said, adding that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the process was issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, on August 14, 2024.
