Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday took digs at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and made a veiled attack on former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying while “some people are focused on building jacuzzi and showers”, the BJP-led government is working to provide tap water to every home in the country.

Replying to the debate in Lok Sabha on the motion of thanks on the President’s address, PM Modi also took “AAPda” jibe at the Aam Aadmi Party and “Sheeshmahal” swipe at Kejriwal.

His remarks came a day ahead of assembly polls in Delhi.

“Some people in the country are focused on Jacuzzi and showers. Our focus, however, is ‘Har Ghar Jal’. Seventy-five years after the independence…our government has helped 12 crore families get water through schemes introduced,” PM Modi said.

He said the government saved money through its initiatives but did not use it to build “Sheeshmahal”

“Earlier, the headlines of the newspapers used to be related to scams and corruption…10 years have passed crores of rupees have been saved which has been used for the public…we have taken several steps which have saved a lot of money, but we have not used that money to build a ‘Sheeshmahal’, instead we have used that money to build the nation,” he said.

The BJP has accused Kejriwal of “corruption” and “luxurious renovation” of his official residence on taxpayers money when he was Delhi Chief Minister and taken “Sheeshmahal” jibes.

In his speech, the Prime Minister said his government is working to provide a bright future to the youth but there are parties which are “AApda” (tragedy) for the future of youth. PM Modi has repeatedly attacked AAP, the ruling party in Delhi, with “AAPda” jibe.

He also referred to BJP’s victory in the Haryana polls and to the sweep of the ruling Mahayuti alliance in Maharashtra polls.

“We have been working continuously by keeping the future of youth in mind. But there are a few parties that are deceiving the youth. They promise allowances at the time of elections but do not fulfill those promises. These parties are ‘aapda’ on the future of youth. In Haryana, the country has seen how we work. We promised jobs and as soon as the government was formed, youth got jobs. As a result of what we do, we registered a grand victory in Haryana for the third time. In Maharashtra too, we had historic results and we did this with the blessings of people,” he said.

PM Modi said the President spoke about building trust among people regarding the coming 25 years.

“We are in 2025. In a way, 25 per cent of the 21st century has gone by. Only time will decide what happened after independence in the 20th century and the first 25 years of the 21st century. But if we minutely study the President’s Address, it is clear that she spoke about building trust among people regarding the coming 25 years and Viksit Bharat. Her Address strengthens the resolve of Viksit Bharat, builds new confidence and inspires the common people,” he said.

“I am very fortunate that the people of the country have given me the opportunity for the 14th time to reply to Motion of Thanks on President’s Address. So, I respectfully express gratitude to the people,” he added.

PM Modi also spoke about the development initiatives of the BJP-led government and efforts to improve the lives of the poor.

“Till now the poor have been given four crore houses. Those who have lived difficult lives only understand that what is the value of getting a house…The women in the past suffered a lot due to the lack of a toilet system…Those who have these facilities cannot understand the problems of those who are suffering…We have given more than 12 crore toilets,” he said.

Several members participated in the debate on the motion of thanks that started on Monday. (ANI)
