Ganderbal, Dec 30: Central University of Kashmir (CUKashmir) faculty members, administrative staff, scholars and students, led by Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A Ravinder Nath Monday condoled the demise of former Prime Minister, Shri Dr. Manmohan Singh and Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, founder Controller of Examinations (CoE), Central University of Kashmir.
Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Shahid Rasool, Registrar Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Finance Officer, Dr. Arif Khan, faculty members, senior officials, scholars and students attended the condolence meeting held in both offline and online mode.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, described Dr. Manmohan Singh as a statesman par excellence, a visionary economist, and a leader who upheld the highest values of democracy, inclusivity, and progress. Reflecting on his life and achievements, Prof. A Ravinder Nath, highlighted Dr. Singh’s remarkable journey, from a humble beginning to becoming the architect of India’s economic liberalization as Finance Minister in the 1990s, and later serving two terms as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014. Dr. Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister was marked by significant advancements in various sectors, including education, healthcare, and rural development, he said, adding that during his tenure as Finance Minister, Dr. Singh allocated maximum funds for the growth of the education sector. CUKashmir VC recalled the contribution of Dr. Singh as an academician and Chairman University Grants Commission (UGC).
Condoling the demise of Dr. Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, Prof. A Ravinder Nath said, the founder Controller of Examinations, was instrumental in implementing far-reaching reforms that enhanced the institution’s academic credibility. “The digitalization of examination processes, introduction of robust evaluation protocols, and establishment of a student-friendly grievance redressal system were among his notable achievements,” he said.
Addressing the participants, Prof. Shahid Rasool said, the former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh’s emphasis on economic stability, social welfare, and international diplomacy earned him global recognition as a transformative leader. He said Dr. Singh’s demise marks the end of an era, but his vision and dedication will remain a guiding light for future generations
