Jammu, Dec 19: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, today chaired a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi to assess the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
This was the first such meeting on the Union territory since the assembly elections were held there during September-October. After the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of the erstwhile state into two UTs in 2019, law and order in Jammu and Kashmir comes under the central government.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Home Secretary, Director of Intelligence Bureau, RAW Chief, Chief of Army Staff, GOC-in-C Northern Command, DGMO, Chief Secretary and DGP of Jammu and Kashmir, along with heads of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and other senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Union home minister had a detailed discussion on the security roadmap for 2025, the sources said.
Addressing the meeting, Amit Shah reiterated the Modi government’s firm stance against terrorism, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Zero Tolerance Policy. He stressed, “In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Zero Tolerance Policy against terrorism, we will achieve the goal of ‘Terror Free Jammu and Kashmir’ at the earliest.” He assured that all necessary resources would be allocated to this objective, highlighting the joint efforts of all security forces to ensure complete dominance over terrorism in the region.
Shah emphasised that the government, through the collective efforts of all security forces, remains committed to establishing complete control over terrorism in the region. He highlighted the significant participation of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in both the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, pointing to their unwavering faith in the country’s democratic processes.
“The unprecedented participation of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the Assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections shows that they have full faith in democracy,” Shri Shah remarked.
Acknowledging the efforts of the security agencies, the Union Home Minister praised the substantial reduction in terrorist incidents, infiltration, and the recruitment of youth into terrorist organizations. “Due to the sustained and coordinated efforts of the Modi Government, the eco-system of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has almost ended,” he stated.
Shah directed all security agencies to continue working in close coordination to eliminate the remnants of terrorism in the region. He stressed the urgent implementation of the Area Domination Plan and Zero Terror Plan, urging that both be pursued in mission mode.
The meeting marked a continued commitment by the Modi Government to restore peace and stability to Jammu and Kashmir through unified and strategic efforts by all relevant security agencies.
