Ganderbal, Dec 17: The much-awaited water filtration plant in Rayil area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district is all set to be made operational shortly.
Constructed at the cost of Rs 3.4 crore, the project will supply clean drinking water to New Colony Gund and Rayil areas of the district, thereby addressing the long pending demand of the residents of these areas. The project is nearing completion with almost 99 per cent of its work over while as officials said that final touches are being given before the plant is set rolling.
A water tank built 20 years ago in Kullo Mohalla Gund, a primary source of drinking water in the area had become defunct forcing the residents to demand a filtration plant in the area.
Speaking about the project, Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Jal Shakti Shabir Ahmed confirmed that the plant, constructed under the NABARD scheme, is nearing completion and will soon supply clean drinking water to Rayil and Gund.
The plant is designed to provide 45,000 gallons of water daily to the areas. The AEE also noted that the filtration plant requires electricity for maintenance. To ensure uninterrupted operation, the Power Development Department (PDD) is in the process of installing a dedicated transformer.
The advanced technology used at the plant ensures seamless operation and prevents waste buildup, promising uninterrupted access to safe drinking water for residents. With this development, the long-standing water crisis in Rayil and Gund areas is expected to come to an end. People of these areas are also excited to see the filtration plant nearing completion. “It is indeed a great moment for us. Finally, we will get the clean and safe drinking water,” said Ghulam Nabi, a resident.
