Srinagar, dec 11: The one-week skill development program titled “Empowering Women Farmers through Sericulture Adoption”, sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (GoI), concluded successfully at the College of Temperate Sericulture (CoTS), SKUAST-Kashmir, Mirgund, on December 10, 2024. The program, held from December 5 to December 10, 2024, had 27 women participants.
This programme successfully equipped the participants with practical knowledge and skills, empowering them to adopt sericulture as a viable livelihood and contribute to sustainable rural development.
At the valedictory function held on 10th December, 2024, Dr. Shahina A. Nagoo, program coordinator, welcomed the participants and emphasized the transformative role of skill-oriented training programs in empowering women. She highlighted how such initiatives can create sustainable livelihood opportunities and enhance economic self-reliance among women farmers.
Prof. M.F. Baqual, Head of the Division of Host Plant Production, underscored the relevance of skill-based programs in promoting advancements in sericulture technologies. Prof. K.A. Sahaf, Associate Dean of the College, encouraged participants to use the acquired knowledge and skill for creating self-employment opportunities. The programme concluded with certificate distribution and vote of thanks proposed by Dr.Sabiha Ashraf.
