Srinagar, Dec 07: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture J&K, today conducted a comprehensive field visit to District Udhampur to assess the progress of various developmental projects undertaken by the Sericulture Department.
As part of his tour, Mr. Bhat visited the Departmental Seed Station at Sial Sallan, Cherry, where he reviewed the status of up-gradation of Departmental Seed Units in the district. He also inspected the ongoing construction of a Modern Silkworm Seed Grainage at the Mulberry Nursery, Cherry.
The Grainage, once operational, will facilitate large-scale silkworm seed production, thereby contributing significantly to achieving self-reliance in Silkworm seed production in the coming years. During the visit, Mr. Bhat also inspected the Cocoon Warehouse facility being utilized for cocoon storage.
He issued on-the-spot instructions to the District Sericulture Officer, Udhampur, to immediately undertake the facelift of the complex along with necessary repairs to enhance its functionality and aesthetics. Later in the day, Mr. Bhat chaired a review meeting with all Tehsil-level officers of the district wherein he emphasized the importance of proactive engagement, need for strenuous and intensified efforts by all the officers through consistent departmental intervention and regular interactions with farmers. Such measures, he noted, would enable the department to gain firsthand insights into the issues faced by Silkworm Rearers/ Farmers and devise effective solutions.
He stressed the need for accountability, transparency and a mission-oriented approach to drive the holistic development of sericulture in the region. Additionally, the Director urged Circle In-charges to double their efforts to boost cocoon crop production in the forthcoming silkworm rearing season.
He highlighted the critical role of sericulture in the socio-economic development of rural communities and encouraged officers to work diligently towards achieving this objective.
This outreach programme of the Director Sericulture J&K concluded with a renewed commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of developmental projects and giving impetus to the overall growth of the sericulture sector in the district.
