Former VDG found dead in Udhampur forests

Police deny any terror involvement

Srinagar, Dec 03: A former Village Defense Guard (VDG) was found dead under mysterious conditions in a forest area of Udhampur district while police denied the terror angle in the incident.
The body of Ashok Kumar (45) son of Romal Chand, a local resident was found dead along with his rifle (303) in the forests of Chapper area of Udhampur district. Kumar was a disengaged VDG, an armed civilian group, which assists the Army against anti-terror operations in the border areas.
Soon after receiving information about the VDG’s death, a team of police rushed to the spot and took the body in their possession for medico-legal formalities. Also, a case has been registered while further investigation is underway.
SSP Udhampur Amod Nagpure said that Ashok Kumar, a member of the VDG (Village Defence Guards) who went missing, has been found dead under mysterious circumstances far from his house in Chapper, Latti area of district Udhampur.
“He was hit by a bullet but it is not confirmed whether he shot himself or somebody else shot him. Police party rushed to the spot and shifted him to a hospital for post-mortem, investigation has begun. Police have registered a case and further investigation is going on to ascertain the cause of death,” he said.
SSP Nagpure further said initial findings suggested that the death was caused by a gunshot. The facts ascertained so far rule out any terror angle is underway in the case, he added.
On Nov 07, terrorists shot dead two Village Defence Guards (VDG’s) in Munzla Dhar forests of Kishtwar after both were kidnapped from a nearby forest area.
The slain VDG’s were identified as Nazir Ahmed S/O Mohd Khalil and Kuldeep Kumar S/O Amar Chand, both residents of Ohli Kuntwara, Kishtwar. Both were shepherds and were grazing sheep when the duo was abducted by terrorists.
JKRTC approves release of 20% DA in favour of employees
Jammu, Dec 03: The Jammu & Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC), following approval by Minister for Transport, Satish Sharma, has released 20 percent Dearness Allowance (DA) in favour of its employees working in regular pay band/scale.
The Minister, while complimenting the employees, asserted that the JKRTC management and employees work round the clock to ensure better, safe, comfortable and sustainable travel experience for the commuters. He emphasized that the Omar Abdullah led government is committed to initiate all possible steps for welfare and benefit of JKRTC employees.
The JKRTC employees expressed gratitude to the Transport Minister for his proactive role in early release of DA in their favour.
