SKUAST conducts entrepreneurship skill dev training program

Srinagar, Nov 28: Division of Vegetable Science, Faculty of Horticulture, SKUAST-K successfully Concluded six-week long entrepreneurship Skill development training program on “Compost Entrepreneurship: Opportunities and Insights” on 27th November 2024 sponsored by Ministry of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Govt. of India.
This marks a significant milestone in equipping aspiring entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills to capitalize on the growing opportunities within the composting industry.
The program brought together a diverse group of 25 participants from different districts of the valley who were guided through a comprehensive curriculum designed to foster sustainability and business acumen in the field of composting. The training, which began on 17 October 2024 at Isber Nishat Srinagar aimed to provide participants with a deep understanding of the composting process, its environmental benefits, and the growing demand for sustainable waste management solutions. Participants were exposed to the various aspects of compost entrepreneurship, including business planning, waste-to-compost conversion techniques, market analysis, and scaling of operations.
Various experts, industry experts and progressive entrepreneurs shared valuable insights/lectures during the program. Participants were engaged in hands-on training on composting and exposure visit to composting units were also carried out. Various inputs viz; agricultural tool kit, vegetable seeds and vermi-compost were distributed among the participants. The Program was coordinated by Dr. Syed Berjes Zehra Assistant Professor division of Vegetable Science, SKUAST-K.
At the conclusion of the program head division of Vegetable Science Prof. Asif Bashir Shikari in his remarks stated that the composting offers immense opportunities for individuals to contribute to a cleaner environment while creating jobs and supporting sustainable agricultural practices. The technical support was also provided by All India Coordinated Research Project on Vegetable crops and Potato improvement program.
