Srinagar, Nov 25: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday announced that 90% of the work on the Jammu-Tawi Riverfront Project has been completed, with the remaining work expected to be finished by January next year. The LG made this statement during an on-site inspection of the project, which is being developed under the Jammu Smart City initiative.
Speaking to reporters, Sinha expressed confidence that the project would significantly transform Jammu’s tourism potential and stimulate economic growth. “I visited the project site along with Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and other senior officials. The first phase of the project is almost complete, and we expect it to be fully finished by January 2025,” he said.
The Tawi Riverfront project, located along the Tawi River in Jammu, will serve as a major tourism hub, attracting visitors and enhancing the city’s appeal. The second phase of the project envisions building a new city near the riverfront, further accelerating the development of the area and increasing tourism footfall.
Additionally, several initiatives are underway to boost Jammu’s tourism, including the completion of attractions like the Jambu Zoo, Light and Sound Show, and the Tirumala Tirupati Temple. Sinha highlighted that around 5,000 to 6,000 people are already visiting the Tirumala Tirupati Temple on weekends, and this number is expected to grow as more tourist spots are developed.
Efforts are being made to create more destinations in Jammu city and the surrounding region, with support from the Government of India. “We are working to develop new attractions that will make Jammu a preferred tourist destination. The Jammu Smart City initiative, although challenging, has done an excellent job in transforming the area,” Sinha stated. Praising the work done by the Jammu Smart City and the Irrigation Department, he expressed his belief that the people of Jammu will soon have a beautiful riverfront akin to Lucknow’s iconic landscapes.
The Lieutenant Governor was accompanied by several officials, including Shaleen Kabra, Additional Chief Secretary of the Jal Shakti Department, Dr. Mandeep Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, and senior officials from the Housing and Urban Development Department.
