Jammu, Nov 18: National Conference (JKNC) Additional General Secretary, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra on Monday said the party was committed to the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.
Addressing a party convention held in the Vijaypur area of district Samba, Sadhotra lauded the “visionary” leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for spearheading the unanimous cabinet resolution demanding the restoration of statehood and the subsequent Assembly resolution advocating for the reinstatement of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
“These resolutions reflect the party’s determination to safeguard the constitutional rights and dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Praising Omar Abdullah’s consistent efforts, Ajay said the National Conference has always prioritised the aspirations of the people. “The restoration of statehood is not just a political demand but a step towards restoring the confidence and identity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah’s leadership has been instrumental in keeping this mission alive,” he said.
The NC leader reiterated the party’s dedication to addressing pressing public issues. He stressed the importance of initiatives like “Har Ghar Jal, Har Ghar Nal”, urging their effective implementation to ensure access to clean drinking water for every household.
“The party’s welfare agenda was also underscored, including commitments to provide 200 free electricity units, one gas cylinder per month, and double rations to households, as acknowledged in the Lieutenant Governor’s address to the Assembly,” the statement said.
Chairman of the OBC Cell JKNC, Abdul Gani Teli, mentioned the party’s inclusive approach, highlighting Omar Abdullah’s role in establishing the OBC Advisory Board to address the community’s needs. “The National Conference is committed to increasing OBC reservations and ensuring social justice for all marginalized communities,” Teli remarked.
The convention also marked a significant moment for the party as several notable leaders joined its ranks, including Jagdish Verma who contested the parliamentary election and two times Assembly elections, Karan Attri who contested the parliamentary election 2024, Tarsem Verma Vice President OBC Marcha, Madan Lal Rtd RTO and Ashok Verma, the statement said.
Welcoming the new members, Sadhotra said their inclusion strengthens JKNC’s efforts to fight for the rights and development of Jammu and Kashmir.
