Srinagar, Nov 16 : The traffic police for Rural Kashmir on Saturday have issued a warning to all school authorities, private coaching centers, and parents, urging them not to permit students and minor children to operate two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles.

Traffic Police for Rural Kashmir warns all school authorities, coaching centers & parents not to permit students, minors to operate 2 wheeled and 4 wheeled vehicles

In an official traffic advisory released by Ravinder Paul Singh, SSP Traffic for Rural Kashmir, it was emphasized that this practice has resulted in numerous tragic fatalities and must be addressed to prevent further loss of life.

“To protect the lives of minor children and other road users, this behavior must be eradicated through all available means. Allowing a minor to operate a vehicle constitutes a serious offense and may lead to punitive measures under Section 199A of the M.V. Act, 1988, against the guardian of the minor or the vehicle owner,” the advisory stated.

The SSP Traffic noted that guardians and vehicle owners who violate these regulations could face imprisonment for up to three years and a fine of twenty-five thousand rupees.

“The registration of the motor vehicle involved in the offense will be suspended for a duration of twelve months,” the advisory added.

It further stated that if a juvenile commits an offense under the aforementioned act, they will not be eligible for a driving license under Section 9 or a learner’s license under Section 8 until they reach the age of twenty-five.

“The juvenile will incur a fine as stipulated in the Act, while any custodial sentence may be adjusted in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000,” Singh informed.
