Srinagar, Nov 05: The Division of Plant Pathology, FoH, SKUAST-K, Shalimar organized one-day mass awareness-cum-scientist farmer interaction program on the judicious use of pesticides under the HADP-18 project “Minimization of Pesticide Use in Agriculture.” at KVK Budgam on Tuesday.
The program was aimed to educate growers on reducing unnecessary pesticide applications vis-à-vis advanced disease and pest management strategies in agricultural and horticultural crops.
The event featured lectures and guidance from SKUAST-K scientists on effective measures for minimizing pesticide use, particularly in orchard settings, with a focus on sustainable disease and pest management methods. Around 100 farmers from various areas of Budgam district, including Harwani, Khansahab, BK Pora, Chadoora, and Magam, actively participated, raising queries and seeking expert advice during the program.
SKUAST-K resource persons included Dr. Bilal Ahmad Lone, Dr. Tariq Rasool Rather, Dr. Mohammad Najeeb Mughal, Dr. Mudasir Gani Bhat, and Dr. Vaseema Yousuf. Oher experts from KVK Budgam and the Departments of Horticulture and Agriculture also gave their valuable inputs.
This interaction aimed to empower farmers with knowledge and techniques for effective pest and disease management, promoting a more environmentally conscious approach to pesticide use in agriculture.
