• Two bullets were found in Veeri’s baggage
• After verification procedures legislator released
Srinagar, Oct 27: National Conference leader and Member of the Legislative Assembly from Bijbehara, Bashir Ahmad Veeri, was detained on Sunday at Srinagar airport after few bullets were found in his baggage. He was later released following proper verification procedures, officials said.
Veeri was en route to Jammu when routine baggage scanning at Srinagar airport revealed few bullets were recovered from his possession. He was subsequently detained and taken to Humhama Police Station for questioning.
A senior police officer told Rising Kashmir that legislator detained for a few hours & accordingly allowed to travel after he produced a licence. During questioning, he said he had forgotten them in his bag and was released accordingly.
Former SMC Mayor, Junaid Azim Mattu in a post on X said that “All political differences aside, have known Dr Veeri to be a thorough gentleman and nationalist.
News of his over-exuberant detention for carrying “ammunition” smells fishy and could be an indication of some systemic turf-war. He should be released promptly and respectfully,” he said.
Shakir Parray, another social media user said that Dr Veeri is a thorough gentleman and there appears to be a conspiracy to malign his image and reputation.
“National Conference should have issued a statement by now and the police should investigate the possibility of a conspiracy,” he said in a post on X.
