Baramulla, Oct 16: Residents of Qazipora village in north Kashmir’s Tangmarg have urged the government to construct a new school building, which has been damaged by heavy snowfall three years ago.
Aamir Ahmad, a local resident of Qazipora, told Rising Kashmir that the Government Primary School in their village suffered significant damage due to the severe snowfall three years ago.
“There is currently only one shed and one classroom available for students. The school lacks a staff room, office, and store facilities, apart from these classrooms,” Ahmad said.
He said that students are forced to share the limited classroom space. Ahmad emphasized that the government must allocate funds to construct a new school building in their village to provide proper facilities to students.
Abdul Gani Bhat, another resident of Qazipora, expressed concerns about the inadequate space and facilities at the school posing several challenges for the students.
“During rain and snowfall, students are reluctant to attend school due to the lack of alternative options beyond these classrooms,” Bhat said.
He said that if the government were to prioritize the construction of a new school building in the village, it would greatly enhance the educational experience for the students, ensuring they receive all necessary facilities.
An official from the Sub-division administration in Gulmarg said that the damaged school in Qazipora was built on forest land. However, they have identified a new location where the school building will be constructed in the area.
