Shopian, June 28: Chief Planning Office, Shopian and District Statistics and Evaluation Office, Shopian on Wednesday jointly organised a function prior to the “17th National Statistics Day”, being celebrated on June 29 every year, here.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian Faz Lul Haseeb, who was the chief guest on the occasion, released three Annual Statistical Publications – District Statistical Handbook, District at a Glance and Village Amenity Directory – prepared by the District Statistical and Evaluation Office Shopian.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said the aim of National Statistics Day is to pay tribute to Legendary Professor P.C. Mahalanobis (Great Indian Statistician) for his contribution to economic planning. “The celebration of this day aims to educate people on the importance of knowing the basics of statistics as it plays a major role in our daily life,” he said, adding that development is impossible without proper planning and proper planning depends upon actual data.
Joint Director, Planning, Khursheed Ahmed Khatana while speaking on the occasion said that they try to collect actual and real statistical data for comprehensive planning. He said the publications released today are efforts of many in that direction.
Assistant Director, District Statistics and Evaluation Office highlighted the main development and welfare data of the publications. The officers and officials of the Planning Development and Monitoring Department, Shopian and other concerned were present on the occasion.
