Srinagar, Oct 09: Jammu and Kashmir Awami National Conference (ANC) president Begum Khalida Shah on Wednesday congratulated the victorious National Conference (NC) and Indian National Congress (INC) alliance for “ending the decade-long rule” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kashmir.
In a statement issued here, she said, “The people’s verdict clearly reflects their rejection of the unconstitutional decisions made on August 5, 2019. We stood united against the ruthless oppression and hardships faced by our people and leadership during that time.”
Khalida Shah reaffirmed the ANC’s commitment to restoring statehood, the flag, and constitutional rights as well as the reinstatement of Article 370 and Article 35A with honour and dignity. The ANC played a significant role in the struggle since August 5, 2019, alongside other parties like the NC, People’s Conference (PC), CPI(M), CPI and JKPM, she said.
Expressing regret over recent electoral shifts that led to a separation from their traditional alliance, she said the ANC remains dedicated to the collective goal of restoring constitutional rights and statehood. “Although we are not part of the legislature, we stand in solidarity with the NC-INC alliance for all rightful decisions aimed at achieving our objectives,” she said.
The ANC chief extended her congratulations to every candidate from the NC, Congress and CPI(M) for their impressive victories and expressed hopes for a stable government in J&K. She also expressed gratitude to ANC leadership and workers who worked tirelessly under challenging conditions, especially after the split from the alliance and the limited time to prepare for the elections.
Khalida Shah said her party will serve as a responsible opposition with a strong voice. “Elections come and go, and victories and defeats are inherent to the democratic process,” she said.
