Jammu, Oct 08: Former SSP Mohan Lal has secured the Akhnoor Assembly Constituency in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly elections, winning by a significant margin. He secured 49,927 votes, defeating the Congress candidate, Ashok Kumar, who garnered 25,248 votes, making for a lead of over 24,679 votes.
Expressing his heartfelt gratitude, Mohan Lal thanked the voters of Akhnoor for their unwavering support and trust. “I am overwhelmed by the blessings of the people of Akhnoor. Their faith has led to this monumental victory, and I assure them that I will live up to every promise made during the campaign,” he said.
Mohan Lal also extended his gratitude to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership at both the central and Jammu and Kashmir levels for their confidence in his leadership. “I am deeply thankful to the BJP leadership and the Akhnoor Assembly BJP organization for their tireless efforts and dedication, working day and night to ensure our success,” he added.
In his victory address, Lal reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling all promises outlined in his Sankalp Patra. He pledged to work tirelessly towards transforming Akhnoor into a model constituency, with a focus on development, infrastructure, and public welfare.
Celebrations erupted across Akhnoor as Mohan Lal returned to a grand reception organised by the locals, a statement issued here said. “The victorious candidate led a massive procession through the streets of Akhnoor, where he paid obeisances at the revered Kameshwar Temple,” the statement said. “The celebrations continued with a cake-cutting ceremony at Radha Chowk, where hundreds of supporters danced to the beats of dholak and distributed sweets, including halwa, in honour of the win.”
